4 Types of Fishing Gear You Need for Your Next River Trip

Fishing in a river is a favorite pastime of many people. However, it is something that has it's limitations if you only show up to the river with your fishing rod and tackle box and try and cast off from shore. The typical trip to the river involves you standing on shore and casting out into the river with hopes of catching some fish. However, that is not the only thing you can do when fishing the river. You can get out into the river and have more free range when it comes to fishing. Here's a few of the things will need in order to get into the water and experience a new type of river fishing.
A Fishing Kayak

They are designed to be expertly maneuverable in the water, light, and super quick. You can get into the water and into your kayak, and then paddle up or down the river, hitting the spots with more fish than you might otherwise reach from on land or even in the water with your waders on. You can hook them up to your vehicle and bring them to the river and then drive back home and store them in your shed or garage.
Waterproof Waders
The most basic piece of equipment you will need is a good set of waders. These will keep your feet and pants dry when it comes time to walk out (wade) into the river. This will let you either walk out into the water and cast off, which is perfect for fly fishing, or even if you decide to get a kayak and want to launch your kayak and float out into the river. You should look into a set of waders that also have insulation, which will help keep you warm while you are in the water.
Floatable Fishing Rod (of Rod Floaters)
You also need to make sure that your fishing gear won't sink should it fall into the river. You don't want to have to reach down and dive down into the cold water. So, it's important that you make sure that the rods float. You can go about this one of two ways. First, you can get roads that are designed to float. These fishing roads have been engineered to float without extra devices. The second option is to get attachments that you can put onto your fishing rod and which will help keep the road afloat. They are little floaters that will just slip onto the rod.
Waist Tackle Box
You also want a waist tackle box instead of one of those large, hard boxes that you might have been using for several years. The hard boxes can't be taken out into a kayak or if you walk waist deep into the water. A soft, waterproof bag that you attach to your waist is ideal. It will be useful when walking around in the water and also soft and easy to access when in your kayak.
