3 Ways For Couples To Stay Active During Winter

Posted on: 21 July 2016

For couples who are trying to adopt a more active lifestyle, the winter season can be challenging, especially if you don't have access to mountains for the typical snow sports of skiing and snowboarding. However, if you're looking for a way to still enjoy outdoor exercise with your partner and be active during the winter months, here are some activities you should try.

Take an ice-skating class.

This is a great way to combine teamwork skills with improving your balance and coordination. You can take a beginner's class to get the basics of stating up, moving forward, and stopping, and then progress to game playing and skating backwards. You'll find that skating provides a great workout for the legs -- you'll be sore afterwards -- and it can help get you outside. It an also improve joint flexibility and stability, which will be a great asset when you get back into summer sports like hiking or running. Local ponds or outdoor skating rinks will be a cheap and easy date night that will beat sitting home watching a movie. For more information, contact Ontario Ice Skating Arena Skating School or a similar location.

Rent some snowshoes.

If you're really looking for a workout, you don't have to look any further than a pair of snowshoes. This is the ultimate test of trail breaking, and it really works your heart. One study showed that snowshoeing could burn up to 1000 calories in an hour. With the lower temperatures and how you need to bundle up, the calorie burn is amplified by the work your body needs to do to keep you warm in a cold environment. Together, you can take turns breaking the trail, which will give each of you a turn to rest.

Strap on the cross-country skis.

While you do need mountains for downhill skiing, all you need for a cross-country skiing is some snow cover and a pair of skis. To make it a challenging workout, try to choose a path that will have a few hills that you need to climb. If you want to do "long distance" skiing where you explore the winter wilderness for long stretches, its best to invest in skis that are for touring. If you'd like to have a sprint style workout where you race against your partner for short bursts, skate skis are a better design.

These three winter sports have great benefits -- they can be what keeps you and your partner motivated during the cold months. You can both stay on the fitness track to more fully enjoy the summer sports when the season turns warm again.

Learning About Sporting Goods

Hello, my name is Sarah Drummond. Welcome to my site about sporting goods. Growing up, I played every sport imaginable in an effort to find my favorite one. I switched from team to team quarterly to experience each game and practice my skills on the field or court. My love for sports only grew as I learned how to use the equipment to reach the goal of each game. On my website, I would like to talk about all of the gear used in sports games of all kinds. I hope you will visit this site often to learn all you can about sporting goods. Thanks for coming by.
